Decluttering your home

The definition of clutter is stuff not in the right place. Clutter is a postponed decision.

Experts figured if we de-cluttered it would cut down on 40% of housework. We waste an hour each day looking for items that can be found in clutter.

Solution to clutter:

Put away things as you walk past.

Do not buy what you do not need or want.

Remove it if you have not touched it in a year.

Remove it if you do not care about the item.

Get rid of broken items or if you do not love it.

Do not pass on/hand me downs to friends. Give to a charity.

Tell friends/family your request for no gifts/toys.

Repurpose items/shop at home when redecorating.

Above all do not declutter alone. A friend will give you the real truth about what to keep/pass.

The key take away is the more you own, the more it owns you. Decluttering frees up space not just in your closet.

On a side note, I tell my parents the kids want time with them not toys. So they take the kids out for a special lunch on their birthday without any siblings or parent. They get to pick the restaurant and food item. As an adult I remember the birthday lunches with my grandma rather than the toys she would let us buy at the toy store after lunch.
